PUMAS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD PRE SEASON FRIENDLY

Pumas Development Squad V Whitley Bay Barbarians

No fewer than 7 pumas took a turn playing for the visiting
barbarians who were short of players for this pre season friendly.   Only 4 of the Pumas had open age experience
and the game was set up to give players who had not played rugby league before
and some of the emerging players from the Pumas junior section a taste of
playing open age rugby.

A very scrappy game strewn with errors got better as it went
on with both teams failing to complete set after set which was to be
expected.

The stand out player of the game was Pumas prop Chris Nicholson
back from a long lay off due to injury who played that entire game for the
visitors scoring a hat trick and  winning
the man of the match award.

The final score was 22 20 to Whitley Bay but both teams will
be able to take away a lot from the game and the Pumas will have been able to
see who is ready to move up into the regional team this year and also consider
fielding a 3rd team this year to play more friendly games.

16 year old Boawe Rankin stood out on the Pumas team making
some very good runs and also Danny Wilson playing in the centre looked very threatening
throughout the game.
