Saturday 12th May Report

Saturday 12th May Report

Saturday 12th May.

Peterlee Pumas enjoyed a very successful Saturday as 3 of
their Junior teams and both Mens teams took to the field in League and Cup
competitions around the region.

The small  town of
Peterlee managed to field over 100 players with some teams also no playing a
fantastic effort and won 4 out of 5 the  games for the pumas

Not bad, the under
13s beat Durham Tigers in the North East Cup, 42 4 away whilst the under 14s were
at home beating Jarrow 44 14 a team that had beaten them by 2 trys a few weeks
ago, the 14s are making huge steps forwards.
The girls under 14s went up to Sunderland to take part in a training game with the newly formed Sunderland Scorpions.

The Pumas development
team was stripped of 4 of its key players prior to travelling to Hartlepool but
still fielded over 20 players and beat the Home side 48 22 with an excellent
display.   The Pumas firsts were slightly
depleted but had lots of chances to score which went astray on the final pass,
still the Pumas looked to be in control for the first 20 but as chance after
chance went begging the home side grew and got ahead in the middle part of the
game the crucial final score from Sunderland came controversially as the Touch
Judged flagged for foot in touch which was missed by referee Chris Hood who
waved play on.   Sunderland were Leading
32 14 with 10 minutes to go the Pumas finally gelled and were in the ascendancy
hauling back the score to 32 30 and were scoring at will but just ran out of
time,  narrowly losing to Sunderland 32
30 for the first time in 8 years.

A rebuilding season for the Pumas as more former junior
players join the open age ranks and some good set to come from all the Pumas
sides this year.

Next game, Open age v Jarrow in the National Cup Wednesday
night 7 30.
