Under 13s Cup Final
The Pumas under 13s who have been incredibly successful over recent year winning the league since they were 11 and showing the most consistent form showed that even the favourites can have a bad day losing the North East Cup final 56 6 away to Gateshead Storm. Playing up an incredibly steep hill in the blazing sun was tough ask as the home team were able to get an early lead and build on it on a pitch that really isn’t suitable for this type of fixture. The Pumas battled literally uphill for the whole first half and could be forgiven for feeling hard done by as 3 of the first four storm tries appeared to come from clear knock-ons which triggered the Pumas defence to pause expecting the scrum and allow easy run ins.
The Pumas did battle back and spread the ball wide left then back right to go over and score towards the end of the half but the touch judge deemed a knock on had occurred at some point and the referee reversed the award of a try. By the 2nd half the Pumas were exhausted and although they battled hard and competed playing much better rugby they just couldn’t complete the final phases of their attacks and a lot of continuity was lost giving the whole squad an opportunity to take part. Lots to work on for the future of the squad however and a lot of potential for future success with still several months left of the season t the whole club continue to look for new recruits at all ages.
