OPEN AGE SUMMARY 21ST JULY

DEVELOPMENT TEAM AWAY TO WHITLEY BAY

The Pumas Development team who have gone from strength to strength this year and put in an excellent league performance being the only second team in the league which has become much stronger this year put in a an excellent attacking display against the Whitley Bay Barbarians who have themselves grown much stronger in recent times.

The 58 46 away win to the Pumas came at a cost with Ross Brymer dislocating a finger and a couple of other bad knocks to players which will deplete the squad but did not put a damper on a great game of Rugby.  There was never more than 2 tries between the sides with lead changing constantly.  The Barbarians must have thought they had clinched the victory with 10 to go as
they went two scores ahead but the Pumas rallied and crossed 4 times to snatch the victory back.  The Pumas currently sit joint 3rd with Miners Rugby League on 16 points with 3 games left to play an excellent performance from the Young Pumas.  Notable performances from second rower John Malcolm scoring 4 tries, Standoff Luke Watson with 5 and taking his season total to 17, Stand off Luke Watson with 5 and prop Chris Nicholson who got man of the match playing 70 minutes at Prop. The Pumas first team which is not much older travelled to Wallsend and put up a battling display, opening up the scoring on the 3rd tackle, 2nd row Carl Brown, one of only 4 players in the squad in their mid-twenties broke the home defence and ran in from 60 meters.  The game was another close encounter with both sides trading tries throughout the game and despite some questionable decisions the pumas were 4 points behind with 15 minutes to go at 30 26 and were looking the stronger of the two sides.  A sin bin to Prop Richard Foster for punching in frustration gave the home team the window they needed and although the Pumas continued to battle a late couple of tries sealed the victory for the young side.  Final Score was 46 26.  The Pumas now sit joint 4th with Wallsend with 2 games to go.  Excellent performances from Props Rollins and James and young half backs Daniel Bleek and Jack Adamson.  Man of the match David Heckles also playing at half back.

The next game for the Open age section is away to Durham Tigers  in the Regional Division on the 28th July, KO 14:30, the Next home game is the 1st team home to East Cumbria on the 4th August and the Development side home to Warriors RL.
