Pumas win Durham Derby

Earlier in the League season Durham Tigers came to Peterlee and took the result with two very late tries which took the Pumas by surprise in the County Durham Derby match.  No
such mistakes were made yesterday as the young Pumas who had put a gruelling defensive training session in during the week achieved the goal of shutting the home team out.  The game started off in a bad tempered manner but after some initial skirmishes the Pumas got into a rhythm and built up a 44 0 half time lead.  The 2nd half began with the home side getting good field position and several attacking chances but a strong Pumas defence held them out time and again.  The Pumas then took control and got the score board ticking over again as the Tigers tired it became more and more difficult for them to hold out but put in a spirited display never giving up.  Notable performance came from Scrum half Leigh Wheatley with some powerful running  setting up a lot of the Pumas attacks and unlucky not to get man of the match, man of the match Full back David Heckles with 4 tries and second row John Malcolm scoring two tries  who took his season total to 19 getting very
close to the season club record of 21 with just 2 games left to play.
