GOOD Day for the junior pumas

GOOD Day for the junior pumas

Coming into the game in good form Peterlee travelled to Cramlington started  brightly with some good expansive rugby.  Defensively, very solid with  Clark and Jackson were putting in some great dominant tackling full back Cartridge kept the defensive line organised to counter any threat. The Rockets kicked on the fifth tackle of their set, Cartridge defused the bomb and went on a great run to get the pumas out of their half, offloading to Clark and then Coxon who promoted the ball up the field finally passing to Jackson in support who finished off the move with a try under the post, Drinkwater converted. 0-6.

Rockets kick off went straight to Ross brown powered
forwards,  Clark and Drinkwater did the same one the 2nd and 3rd tackles, then the shift wide came through  Marr and Adam Brown  which launced Coxon for a great Try. Drinkwater converted 0-12.

The Pumas shifting wide again through  Marr, Clark and Drinkwater were setting up some great plays and here some great passing out wide set up Cartridge to score with great support play from Brown and Cook, Drinkwater Converted. 0-18. With half time approaching rockets rallied to start getting more possession but pumas defence was strong with great tackling from everyone, good footwork from Gill and Ross Brown deep in their own half got them out of trouble and followed by Bestford, Jackson and Adam Brown to get ready for the last and fein to put the down town kick ahead but from a quick play the ball Marr set up Drinkwater to power over and he converted 0-24 at Half time.

Pumas started the second half strongly again as rockets kicked off, Cook caught the ball deep in his half and he ran a full 60 meters reaking several tackles to score under the posts, Drinkwater converted 0-30. Pumas then started coming up the middle of the rockets
tiring defence and this time Jackson was next to weave his way through the defence after running from half way to power under the posts, Drinkwater converted 0-36.

Pumas made some changes and one of them Sam Kitching was next to get on the score sheet after Bestford, Adam Brown and rinkwater hadgone over the gain line, and quick hands from Marr and Jackson helped Kitching go over. Drinkwater converted 0-42.

The team play was really great to see from Pumas and this helped with the next try and it was another sub Kieran Rodgers who went over again after great runs and team play from Wales, Marr Adam Brown and Jackson whose pass set up Rodgers to go over for hid first try of the season. Drinkwater missed 0-46.

A contender for try of the game came when Marr picked up from a rockets kick off, he ran almost the the entire length of the pitch
avaiding tackles and great hand off play and but  for a last ditch tackle he would have scored but quick thinking from Drinkwater from play the ball he scooted and went over. 0-50 to beat the home defence who were busy trying to number up for the shift wide which didn’t come.

With the last play of the game Owen gill picked the ball from deep in his half from Marr and his electrifying pace took him through to
score under the posts and he converted.

Full time Cramlington Rockets 0-56 Peterlee Pumas

Forwards Man of the Match went to Kieran Clark – his
tackling, running, work ethic and team play was out standing.

Backs Man of the Match went to Lewis Cartridge – his organisation of the defensive line, caught some difficult balls under
pressure and got a deserved try.

A lot of hard work done in the latter half of the season to start playing the Pumas style of play, still lots to work on but a massive
improvement from the side in the closing weeks of the 2012 Rugby League season.

Next game Gateshead Storm away, 29th September 2012.
