PUMAS 13s/15s Festival, OA v York

Peterlee Pumas Opened the Day up with an under 13s and 15s 9 aside festival with special guests York Acorn and Oultan Raiders combining at under 15s as well as the Puma 15s combining with York to Mak an extra team, Pumas, York, York/Pumas, Wallsend Winlaton formed what a very competitive and entertaining 15s Tournament, the 13s were made up of Peterlee, Durham Tigers, Cramlington A and B, again, another thoroughly entertaining festival all played in the right spirit.  Durham Declined to play the final against Cramlington A so Peterlee Pumas and Cramlington combined forces and played a full 13 aside friendly to finishe the mornings action off.   The afternon saw the Open age run out for the first time this year in a friendly against York Lokos.  The new look pumas side is vastly different to the previosu 2 years with most of the team made up of 16 and 17 year olds brought through from the Junior section.  A very big, fast and experience York side were matched for the first 20 minutes and Peterlee squandered several chances to go ahead due lace of experience at playing open age, then York took charge and capitalised on Pumas mistakes and naivety.  The York half backs ran the show for the 2nd quater and racked up 30 point lead.  Half time saw the Pumas return to the dressing room for a real heart to heart heated debate and they came out in the second half scoring 8 points to Yorks 16 showing a much more encouraging peformance, full time Peterlee 8, York 46 but a lot to build on what is probably going to be the youngest open age side in the North East but a side that will more than hold its own and will be around for sometime to come.  Next game home to Methley Royals 25th April, another strong test ahead of the Norht East league starting in may.  Thanks to Both York sides and everyone else for travelling to the Pumas to make the festival a great event which was finished off with a disco, quiz, raffles in the club house which went on till very late in the night.
