After the great win on the opening day against Winlaton Pumas wanted to continue their good start against the Vikings. This was always going to be a tough game as it was the first game as 13 aside.
Vikings started very brightly with some great passing and movement, but some of the tackling from pumas was brilliant with wales, kitching and white doing some great tackles but they couldn’t stop a try going over after 3 mins and there a conversation.
From the restart Spencer went to kick for a bounce out but sadly went out on the full. Vikings were trying there best to break the defence of pumas down but like the first try, it took the last tackle to go over despite a great attempted tackle from Passman.
Passman was extremely unlucky to stop the next try as the Vikings ran down the wing try line to try line and passman went to tackle his ankles, the winger stumbled but kept control of the ball to go over. Passman got applause from the crowd for his attempt. Pumas got a penalty and from Norman, wales and white gained some yards kitching and higgin also and on the fifth Spencer kick was well caught by Vikings. Pumas kept going but Vikings strength started to show and got a few more tried before the break.
After half time Pumas started to put Vikings on the back foot with Kitching, Paddon and Ellwood doing some great drives, Passman had a great run on the fifth but Vikings stayed strong. Vikings went down the other end and got 2 more tries on the fifth tackle.
Pumas heart and spirit was great to see and got a reward when Passman went over after great play pumas play when Wales, Norman, Paddon, white all had great runs and passman drove over from 20 yards,
With Pumas tiring Vikings added to their tally but yet again they had to use all the sets to go over.
Pumas coach John Steel said “I was very proud of our lads today. We came here with 13 lads, think they had 17, all there lads were year 8; we had 6 the other were year 7 including Kai whose only just started playing rugby. They may have scored 10 or so but most of them were on the last tackle which shows how well we were defended and how hard the lads were trying. We should have Josh Dodds and James Murphy signed up for cramlington who have looked good in training and Zak and Joe aswell so lots to look forward to.”
